Notes from Sundays...

Again, no pictures. I'm on the wrong computer. It's late, and I have waaay too much to do. I'm going to die this week. From exhaustion, that is. I need to be up my six to get my Bible reading and studying in before school. And then Chemistry. Oh Chemistry. It's going to be the death of me. Forget exhaustion. Stoichiometry is going to be the weapon.

Anyway, I feel like I should share more of my scripture reading and devotionals along with notes from Sundays.

So, like the genius I am, I realized the other day that I really shouldn't copy days from my devotional down and post them on things. The book is copyrighted. I felt bad. But oh. There are *so* many wonderful things in the Spurgeon devotionals.

Also, I wish that I knew how to play cello. And that I was amazing at it.

Today my devotional was on prayer.

And boy was it a good one.

The scripture: "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;... shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?" Luke 18:1-7
Suggested further reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

I won't post all of the middle part. Just sections, as I go along through this post.

For Meditation: Praying always is linked to standing firm in the Christian fight. (Ephesians 6:13,18) The apostle Paul proved it. He was always praying (Romans 1:9; Philippians 1:4; Colossians 1:3,9; 2 Thessalonians 1:11) and did not faint under severe pressures (2 Corinthians 4:1.8-9, 16). Unlike the unjust judge who had no concern for the widow in her battle with her adversary (Luke 18:2-3), God cares for his people as they do battle with their adversary the devil. (1 Peter 5:7-8).

Notes from Sunday School this morning.

1 John 2:12-17

We can be old in years and a babe in Christ.
The closeness in v. 12 that Paul has with them. "Little Children"
v. 1 of chapter 1. (1 John 1:1) Having to do with your age, and the other having to do with your relationship with Christ.
Be an example of the believers. In word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12
1 Peter 2:2-3 ------------ Both having to do with "little children"
Hebrews 5:13-14---------
John's sweet spirit that we see through his writings.
Seeing how God works in my life.
1 John 2:12-14 Paul explaining why he wrote to them. He expresses to them that their sins are forgiven.
Babes in Christ desire the word of God. Desire it.
Ephesians 6:10-18 Having the armor of God on us at all times.
Desire the word of God.
1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: BY WHOSE STRIPES YE WERE HEALED"
Ephesians 5:2 Give thanks always. Our prayer is to Jesus. It should not be by our merits to pray to him. He guides us.
Philippians 2 "Every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord."

From todays devotional:
"Our Lord means that believers should exercise a universality of supplications--we ought to pray at all times. There are no canonical hours in the Christian's day or week. We should pray from daybreak to midnight, at such times as the Spirit moves us. We should pray in all conditions., in our poverty and in our wealth, in our health, and in our sickness, in the bright days of festival and in the dark nights of lamentation"

Oh. I want to post more of it.

The last part:
"You will never err by praying too much; you will never make a mistake by asking God's guidance too often; but you will find this to be the gracious illumination of your eyes, if in the turning of the road where two paths, which seem equally right, meet, you will wait a moment and cry until God, 'Guide me, O thou great Jehovah.' 'Men ought always to pray'."

February 21 365 Days with Spurgeon Volume 3.

It's fantastic. I think I'm going to buy the 1st volume for friends for Christmas. I wish everyone could or would have his work.

God is so good to us.

And when I get stressed out, and don't turn to Him, I hurt Him. I shouldn't be stressed in the first place. I should always be trusting Him to take care of everything. He will get my through anything. So when I come here, and freak out because I'm worried about something. Please always remind me to keep trusting Him.

"Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long."

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." -Proverbs 3:5-6

Love,

Bethan

  1. Thank you for posting this, Lizzie!! I loved reading the sections out of your devotional, and the notes from Sunday School you put up. You should do this more. ;)

Spurgeon's devotionals are so wonderful! Right now I'm reading "Morning and Evening" by Spurgeon.

I love the cello too! If I was able to pick a second stringed instrument to play, I would definitely pick cello. I love the deep, mellow sound it has. :)

  2. Thank you, Kay!

    I'm glad that I didn't bore you!

I know! I love the cello! Did I tell you that Dad played the cello when he was in highschool??

  3. Christi told me that he did, but otherwise I wouldn't have known. I think that's awesome! Did he like it, and why didn't he keep it up? He should have kept his cello! That would have been so neat. :)

  4. I guess he didn't like it. Because he stopped after Fritz, their German Shepard, ate the bow.

I wish he would have! I would love to learn it!
